Bennie
We live in Mount Vernon, Iowa, a great little town near Cedar Rapids (an industrial and shopping center) and Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa. Since she graduated from Macalester College, Cassie lives and works in New York City. She runs marathons; wish I could do that. Christy graduated in journalism from the University of Kansas and lives and works in Cedar Rapids.

Cassie was married to Paul Nelson on August 30, 2003. |
Christy was married to Andrew Bock on October 23, 2004. |

Pics of Hal and Sharon on their 2000 cruise: formal, scenes, tourists
We also cruised in January 2006 as well as in February 2007. More about those trips later... maybe.
a man of faith
I'm serious about spirituality. I practice centering prayer. We attend St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mount Vernon where I like to participate in small group discussions and faith sharing. Sharon and I graduated in 2003 from the archdiocesan Lay Formation program.
From time to time I compose poems and songs.
a worker
I'm retired and enjoy volunteer work as well as writing and editing. After earning my Ph.D. in English from Northwestern University, I was an English professor, bookstore owner, and software developer and product development manager.
a volunteer leader
I'm active in the IEEE (a professional society for electrical, computer, and software engineers), where I served as Cedar Rapids Section chairman during 1996-97. In 1997 I initiated ProCon, the Section's annual professional development conference for engineers and technical professionals, and served as chair for a number of years. The tenth annual ProCon was held on May 1, 2007.
a seeker after growth and integration
I believe life and work can and should be integrated. Authors Thomas Keating, David Steindl-Rast, Henri Nouwen, Geoff Bellman, Peter Block, Stephen Covey, David Whyte, and Thomas Moore have been great influences in confirming that belief.
I'm also very interested in psychological type. See also the Whole Person Affirmation List.
